Offense Aplenty

Whether it is the altitude or the friendly gaps there is no denying that Isotopes Park has been a launchpad. Luckily, the home team has out-slugged its opponents as the Isotopes have racked up hits like nobody’s business.

The high-powered offense has led to 10 straight home wins for Albuquerque as the Isotopes have not lost a game in The Duke City since June 24.
With the offense beyond dialed in, several franchise records have also been shattered. Just last night the ‘Topes racked up an all-time best 24 hits and 40 total bases.
The real beauty is the base knocks and runners on base are coming from all areas of the lineup. And the outbursts are arriving in a variety of forms, long ball to small ball. For instance, although the Isotopes crushed four home runs last night, they racked up 16 singles. An early three or four run deficit has quickly become an easy task to overcome for the Isotopes.
Even crazier than the whiffleball-esque games is that if the ‘Topes ended the season today, the .272 batting average would still rank as the lowest in the franchise’s seven seasons.
Don’t forget, too, the ‘Topes finish up the regular season with 28 of their final 44 contests at home!

Down Home

The old adage “Home Sweet Home” is an understatement as of late when it comes to Isotopes Park. The hometown team has won eight straight games at home (dating back to June 25) and with 29 of their next 50 games at home, the time could not be better for the ‘Topes to heat up in the friendly confines of Isotopes Park. In fact, Albuquerque holds a 25-17 home record this season.

Keeping up the home cooking could make or break of the ‘Topes chances at their first postseason since the team’s inception in 2003. That year marked the first season with the Marlins affiliate, a year in which the Marlins won the World Series. Maybe just maybe if all the stars align, 2009 could be the same predicament. After all the ‘Topes are on fire and the Dodgers (in their first season as the ‘Topes Triple A partner) hold the best record in all of baseball and, like the ‘Topes, hold a stunning home record of 29-15.
With both teams stocked with great talent, the chase for the playoff possibility is sure to be an exciting one. Make sure you’re there to support the ‘Topes with their exciting run!
